Common Merganser in-flight - New Jersey

A female Common Merganser flying straight on:

Close-up of a flying merganser - NJ

I usually get to see, and photograph, waterfowl either flying away, above, or by me. This must have been the first time, that I was able to photograph a merganser in-flight straight on. Actually, I don’t remember getting any of the ducks flying straight at me before. As you can imagine, I’m pretty happy about this photo, especially that it was taken near by.

What’s interesting about this shot is the size and shape of the merganser’s body, especially when comparing a side view. When ducks are in the water you don’t see their body that much.
