Short video clip of an adult male Indigo Bunting singing:
Did you hear that bird at the end of this video? It is the moment when I realized that someone else is watching songbirds with meš Here it is: https://www.greggard.com/blog/2022/2/barred-owl-hooting-video-nj
Have a great weekend!
Video Tip
Were you wondering why the sound isnāt that clear? Simply put, because it was recorded with a āonboardā microphone - microphone built-in into the camera.
Primary focus of my outings is bird photography. Recording videos is a secondary thought. In other words, I photograph birds first and when I find a reasonably cooperative bird, I switch to video. For that reason, I rarely mount a proper microphone to record a ābetterā sound. As you can hear, the foreground, in this case some kind of insects, is more pronounced than the bird itself. Also, the cameraās microphone picks up other ānoiseā like the stabilization of the lens - the constant hum. Other way to look at it, is that cameraās microphone records like āwith a wide angle lensā while the picture was recorded with a telephoto lens. Does this make sense? If not, feel free to ask the question in the comments section :)
Simple shotgun microphone, like this one: https://amzn.to/35szbje is a perfect solution to this simple mistake. Funny thing is, I almost always have it with me but rarely install it on timeš
Compare the sound to this clip: https://youtu.be/9n7Fgy-dw9k
Donāt be lazy! Install the microphone right away if you are recording videos.
