American Oystercatcher landing - Nickerson Beach, NY
An adult American Oystercatcher coming in for a landing:
I’ve been taking similar kind of shots for few seasons now but I finally got lucky to get the full wing spread, as it was landing straight on towards me, all taken at the low angle. The bonus was that this bird didn’t have any bands. A minority on this beach ;)
Information on how I plan and take this kind of photographs is provided in great detail on pages 8-10 of my newest location guide, ebook “Secrets of Bird Photography at the Nickerson Beach, NY” - https://www.greggard.com/location-guides/nesting-shorebirds-nickerson-beach-ny-photography-ebook
Here is a vertical crop of the same image:
Photograph captured with a Sony A1 camera paired with a Sony 600mm GM OSS lens, at 400mm using following settings: 1/500 s, f/4, ISO 160 - here is a full list of my gear: https://www.greggard.com/gear
