Greater Yellowlegs straight on:

One of the less common poses of photographed birds are the “straight on” shots. Mostly because birds try to avoid people and rarely walk towards them. To achieve such a result, birds have to get comfortable with your presence. This is why staying as low to the ground, without any movements, pays a great role. Here, I was laying down on my stomach for about 20 minutes, without any movement. Insects didn’t make this task easy 😜 With a group of 4 Greater Yellowlegs in the distance, and from previous visits to this spot, I knew that eventually these birds will come closer to feed in this part of the water pool as long as I stayed quiet. Since this is a rather public spot, I didn’t need any blind/camouflage cover. Simply staying low did the trick. Situating myself with a setting sun behind my back it was just a waiting game. As you can see, it worked out perfectly! 😍
